The mining sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo was recently at the heart of discussions at the major DRC Mining Week event. Held in Lubumbashi from June 12 to 14, the event brought together experts from various fields related to the mining industry, such as power generation, banking, environmental management, and more. One of the main themes discussed was the need to prioritize sustainable mining operations and further local transformation.

On the other hand, Hugo Sinza, Director of External Relations at TFM, called on the Congolese government to promote local solutions and support private initiatives in the energy sector. He stressed the importance of national sovereignty in energy production, comparing it to the issue of security in the east of the country. Hugo Sinza also advocated for a more efficient use of available funds, by directing them towards energy infrastructure projects for the development of the country.

Beyond these aspects, Hugo Sinza’s intervention in the panel devoted to the mining code, regulation and tax management highlighted the need for a collaborative and transparent approach between all stakeholders in the mining sector. He called for recognition of the positive achievements of the mining industry, while encouraging environmental monitoring involving all stakeholders.

As a sign of recognition of its commitment and efforts, TFM recently obtained the Copper Mark certification, a distinction testifying to the company’s compliance with the highest environmental and social standards. This recognition underlines TFM’s commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility.

In conclusion, Tenke Fungurume Mining’s participation in DRC Mining Week was marked by fruitful exchanges, constructive positions and a deserved recognition of its contributions to the mining industry in the DRC.
