With the celebration of the 57th National Fish Day in the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Félix Tshisekedi paid a significant visit to the Kinkole landing stage, in the commune of N’Sele. The objective of this visit was to supervise the progress of the modernization works of this crucial site for the fishing industry in the region.
During his visit, President Tshisekedi was able to see that the modernization works of the landing stage were well on track, with a progress rate of 90%. The main work remaining was to finalize the asphalting of the access road to the port, an essential step to ensure the proper functioning of the infrastructure.
The construction of this site includes several essential compartments such as warehouses, a cold room and pavilions for the Kinshasa fish market. The modernization of this infrastructure is of paramount importance for the fisheries sector in the DRC, allowing local fishermen to benefit from better working conditions and access to suitable facilities.
President Tshisekedi expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the works, while stressing the importance of their delivery within the allotted time. He also instructed the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock to ensure rigorous monitoring of the works in order to guarantee the completion of the work as soon as possible.
Furthermore, the President also gave instructions for the immediate provision of inputs to fishermen in Kinshasa and Kisangani, with the aim of supporting and boosting the economic activity of this vital sector for the Congolese economy.
In parallel, persistent challenges are also being faced in other regions of the DRC, such as the decline in fish production in Lake Albert due to illegal fishing and insecurity. This situation highlights the crucial challenges of preserving fisheries resources and combating practices that are detrimental to the ecological balance.
In conclusion, President Tshisekedi’s visit to the Kinkole landing stage reflects the importance given by the Congolese authorities to the fisheries sector and the modernization of associated infrastructure. This approach aims to strengthen the economic and social potential of local communities dependent on fishing, while emphasizing the imperative to protect and preserve natural resources for future generations.
