The fishing port of Kinkole in Kinshasa is being modernized, under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi. During a recent visit to the site, the Head of State inspected the progress of the work which aims to make this strategic location even more functional and adapted to the needs of local fishermen. This initiative is part of a ceremony organized on the occasion of National Fish Day, highlighting the importance of fishing and aquaculture for the economic and social development of the country.
The infrastructure under construction will provide various spaces dedicated to the handling, storage and sale of fish. With depots, a refrigerated room, and market pavilions, the fishing port of Kinkole is preparing to become a real nerve center for the seafood trade in Kinshasa. All supervised by the construction company “Best Building Company” (BBC), whose report indicates that the work is at 90% completion.
The Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Jean-Pierre Tshimanga, also announced the establishment of a program for the collection and distribution of locally produced fish, to compensate for the scarcity of this product on the market. This measure aims to support local fishermen and guarantee a regular supply of fish for the population. For the inhabitants of Kinshasa, the Kinkole landing stage represents a concrete solution for the supply of fresh fish, thanks to its efficient storage and trading capacity.
The celebration of the 57th edition of National Fish Day highlighted the essential role of fishing and aquaculture in the revival of the national economy. This day is an opportunity to recognize and promote the work of those involved in the sector, while raising awareness of the preservation of fisheries resources and the promotion of local products. This year’s theme, “fishing and aquaculture, pillars for the recovery of the national economy”, underlines the importance of these sectors for the sustainable development of the country.
In conclusion, the modernization of the Kinkole fishing port in Kinshasa represents a significant step towards improving the working conditions of fishermen and towards the promotion of a dynamic local economy. Thanks to these efforts, the fishing sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to strengthen and contribute positively to the country’s economic growth.
