Humanitarian crisis in the province of Maï-Ndombe: Urgent action to neutralize the “mobondo” militiamen

The situation in the province of Maï-Ndombe in the Democratic Republic of Congo must be taken seriously into consideration. Recent events in Kwamouth territory demonstrate the need to find lasting solutions to end the teke-yaka conflict there.

The words of traditional chief Stany Libie highlight the urgent need to neutralize the “mobondo” militiamen who are at the heart of this crisis. Indeed, these armed groups continue to sow terror and destruction, causing numerous losses of human life and considerable material damage. It is therefore essential that the government acts quickly to eradicate this threat and restore peace in the region.

The consequences of this conflict are devastating for local populations who find themselves displaced, deprived of their homes and their means of subsistence. Essential infrastructure such as schools, health centers and homes have been destroyed, leaving residents in a precarious situation. It is therefore urgent to secure the villages, rebuild these infrastructures and help the displaced to enable them to return to normal life.

It is also crucial that the government becomes aware of the scale of the crisis in other regions such as Bagata in Kwilu province and the commune of Maluku in Kinshasa. The suffering of displaced populations and the devastation caused by the “mobondo” militia must not remain ignored. It is time for concrete actions to be taken to put an end to this unsustainable situation.

In conclusion, peace and the security of civilians must be the absolute priority of the Congolese authorities. It is imperative to act quickly and effectively to neutralize the “mobondo” militiamen and put an end to the teke-yaka conflict which is ravaging the province of Maï-Ndombe. Local people deserve to live in peace and security in their own country, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure their well-being and protection.
