Meeting of delegation of newly elected provincial governors with President Félix Tshisekedi
The Congolese political scene was the scene of a meeting of capital importance this Monday, June 24 at the Cité de l’Union Africaine. President Félix Tshisekedi received in audience a delegation composed of the governors and vice-governors of the newly elected provinces. An opportunity for these regional dignitaries to pay their respects to the Head of State and receive guidance on the management of their respective entities.
Among the representatives present were the governors and vice-governors of the provinces of Kinshasa, Kwango, Haut-Katanga, Kasaï-Oriental, Kongo-Central, Kasaï, Mongala, Lualaba, Haut-Lomami, Lomami and Tshuapa. The speech of the governor of Haut-Katanga, Jacques Kyabula Katwe, reflects the essence of this meeting. According to his words, President Tshisekedi urged the governors to be field agents, listening to their population and providing concrete solutions to societal challenges.
This meeting is part of a context where the Congolese State seeks to strengthen the decentralization and autonomy of the provinces. The Minister of the Interior, Security, Decentralization and Customary Affairs, Jacquemain Shabani Lukoo, stressed during a previous meeting with the governors their essential role in maintaining security and local development. Insisting on border security, respect for public order, protection of property and citizens, the Minister highlighted the importance of secure and transparent governance at the provincial level.
On the local development aspect, the governors are called upon to optimize revenue collection and ensure a fair and equitable distribution of resources within their provinces. The fight against corruption and mismanagement of public funds is a non-negotiable imperative in this approach. Similarly, interprovincial cooperation, limiting the number of ministers in provincial governments and reviving the association of provinces as a space for exchange are crucial recommendations for the consolidation of provincial autonomy.
In short, this meeting between President Tshisekedi and the newly elected governors demonstrates the will of the Congolese authorities to promote inclusive, transparent governance focused on the real needs of local populations. This is a first step towards effective decentralization and the consolidation of national unity in a climate of peace and prosperity for the entire country.
This meeting made it possible to establish a constructive dialogue between the different levels of power and to lay the foundations for effective and inclusive regional governance. The implementation of these recommendations will require a sincere and determined commitment from governors and central authorities to guarantee the well-being of all Congolese, regardless of their region of origin.
Beyond speeches and promises, the time has come for action and the realization of the legitimate aspirations of the Congolese people. The challenges are many, but the hope is great. It is now up to each actor, each political leader, to fully play their role in building a strong, united and prosperous nation. The path has been traced, it remains to follow the path of development and peace for a better future for the Democratic Republic of Congo and its inhabitants.
