The Kamoa Center of Excellence was recently the scene of a highly symbolic event: the celebration of the Day of the African Child in 2024. Indeed, this special day brought together leading personalities, representatives of the authorities local communities, members of civil society and of course, children themselves. At the heart of the festivities, a strong and universal message stood out: education for all the children of Africa.
The theme chosen for this year, “Education for all of Africa’s children: The time has come”, resonates as a call to action and solidarity. Because despite the progress made, many children on the continent continue to find themselves excluded from the education system. The UNESCO figures are clear: 20% of children aged 6 to 11, 30% of children aged 12 to 14 and even 60% of adolescents aged 15 to 17 are not in school in Africa. It is therefore imperative to act quickly and collectively to guarantee every child access to quality education.
In this context, Kamoa Copper SA’s commitment to the education of African children is exemplary. By focusing on an inclusive and holistic approach, the company strives to support not only the learning of younger generations, but also the training of adults. From early childhood to senior literacy, Kamoa Copper deploys a full range of educational programs aimed at filling gaps and strengthening the skills of all.
Ms. Audrey Mbwinga, Communications Manager at Kamoa Copper, highlights the importance of investing in the quality of education at every stage of life. In addition to the construction and renovation of primary schools, the company sets up various initiatives: scholarships, internships, donations of school supplies, health and safety awareness, support for scientific disciplines, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Through these concrete actions, Kamoa Copper actively contributes to the development of local communities and the promotion of a better future for all.
Beyond its educational commitment, Kamoa Copper is giving new impetus through the creation of the Center of Excellence in Musokantanda. This innovative learning place aims to strengthen the skills of future generations and promote the socio-economic development of the regions where the company operates. Because for Ms. Mbwinga, education is much more than a right: it is an essential lever for individual development and collective prosperity.
The celebration of the Day of the African Child in Kamoa therefore concluded in apotheosis, under the benevolent gaze of provincial authorities and representatives of civil society. A moment of unity and commitment, symbolized by the shot where everyone held the precious booklet on the rights of the child. A gesture, an image, to remind us that education is the foundation on which a promising future is built for all the children of Africa.
