**Fatshimetrie: Advocacy for strengthened food and nutritional security in the DRC**
The debate on food and nutritional security in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is essential and of paramount importance. This vital issue was recently the subject of a major workshop organized by the National Committee for the Promotion of Family Agriculture in the DRC (CNPAF).
At the heart of this workshop, the laws governing food and nutrition security were closely examined. Sylvain Ntumba, technical secretary of the CNPAF, stressed the need for a holistic and comprehensive approach to ensure effective regulation of the food sector, from production to consumption.
It is clear, as Mr. Eugène Mukala, expert present at this event, pointed out that certain laws in force are no longer adapted to current reality or date back to a bygone era. It is imperative that legislators seriously consider the pending legislative proposals in order to equip the country with legal instruments adapted to the contemporary challenges of food and nutrition security.
In this vein, Professor Théophile Mbemba of the University of Kinshasa highlighted the urgent need for a global and concerted vision to promote food security and sovereignty in the DRC. Food, he stressed, must be considered a fundamental right for all Congolese, in accordance with the country’s Constitution.
This plea for enhanced food and nutritional security in the DRC must not remain a dead letter. Civil society will have to actively engage, produce impactful advocacy documents and seek the attention of the newly established authorities so that agriculture takes its rightful central place.
In conclusion, it is imperative to pay sustained attention to all dimensions of food and nutritional security in the DRC, by adopting laws adapted to the current reality and by working for a healthy and adequate diet for the entire population. . Food security cannot be a luxury, it must be guaranteed as a fundamental right for all.
