A Contrasting Saturday: Weather Forecasts in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Fatshimetrie, June 21, 2024 – The Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing to experience a Saturday under the influence of stormy skies with scattered rains in several provinces of the country. According to forecasts from the National Agency for Meteorology and Remote Sensing by Satellite (Mettelsat), eight provinces, including Mai-Ndombe, Tshuapa, Mongala, Equateur, Nord-Ibangi, Sud-Ubangi, Bas -Uélé and Tshopo should expect showers.

However, the weather picture looks mixed in other regions of the country. Thus, the provinces of Kwango, Kwilu (Kikwit), Haut-Uélé and Ituri should rather benefit from cloudy skies with some clearings. For their part, Maniema, Tanganyika, Kasaï Oriental, Kasaï Central, Kasaï (Tshikapa and Ilebo), Sankuru and Lomami will be enveloped in morning fog.

In the capital, Kinshasa, as well as in the provinces of Kongo Central, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba and Haut-Katanga, the weather should be overcast and cool. Thunderstorms are also expected in the province of Kwilu (Bandundu). Residents of Kikwit, Kindu and Lusambo will face maximum temperatures reaching 35°C, while the town of Kalemis will experience easterly winds blowing at 15 km/h.

The Mettelsat agency warns the population about these changing weather conditions and recalls the importance of remaining informed and vigilant in the face of natural phenomena. Sunrises and sunsets will punctuate the day, with for example sunrise in Kananga at 5:36 a.m. and sunset at 5:27 p.m.

In short, this climatic diversity which reigns in the Democratic Republic of Congo testifies to the richness and complexity of its natural environment. The inhabitants, accustomed to this variability, know how to adapt and make the most of the resources offered by their country, despite the vagaries of the weather.
