**Celebration of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy: A Tribute to the Pioneers of the DRC**

Every year, on June 24, the whole world celebrates International Women in Diplomacy Day. In 2023, the chosen theme is “Women’s Leadership in Multilateral Diplomacy: Towards Sustainable Peace, Justice and Development.” This very relevant theme highlights the crucial importance of women diplomats in building a just and peaceful world.

Women diplomats from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) play a vital role on the national and international stages. Currently Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DRC, Thérèse KayiWamba Wagner has left her mark on Congolese diplomacy. She was Ambassador of the DRC to the United Nations in Geneva from 2008 to 2014, after having served as Deputy Permanent Representative of the DRC to the African Union from 2004 to 2008. Her exemplary career illustrates the crucial role of women in the international arena.
