Artificial intelligence has become a major issue in international relations, and Morocco and the United States stand out for their leadership in this field. The launch of the Group of Friends on Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development, jointly initiated by Morocco and the United States, reflects the growing importance of this technology in addressing global challenges.
Ambassador Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, stressed the need to capitalize on the momentum created by the UN General Assembly resolution on AI. He highlighted the importance of enhanced digital cooperation, particularly in artificial intelligence, to promote sustainable development on a global scale.
It is undeniable that AI can be a real driver of progress if used effectively and ethically. Mr. Hilale stressed that countries in the South, particularly African countries, need these technological tools to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Morocco, aware of the importance of AI for Africa, recently hosted a high-level forum on artificial intelligence, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The collaboration between Morocco and the United States in the field of artificial intelligence opens new perspectives for the future. By fostering a constructive dialogue within the Group of Friends, these two countries contribute to the promotion of rights-respecting, secure and trustworthy AI. This initiative aims to mobilize efforts to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, by addressing critical issues such as eradicating hunger, promoting gender equality and combating the climate crisis.
The partnership between Morocco and the United States in the field of artificial intelligence paves the way for a fruitful and promising collaboration for the future. By encouraging a balanced and inclusive approach to AI, these two countries affirm their shared commitment to sustainable development and building a better future for all.
