The celebration of Eid-el Kabir in Lagos: Solidarity, Hygiene and Social Cohesion

At the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, addressed a message of goodwill to the assembled gathering. The occasion was apt to address critical issues affecting public health and social cohesion.

A highlight of the governor’s speech was his call for maintaining environmental cleanliness. With the emergence of cholera cases both in Lagos and other parts of the country, he stressed the importance of good hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In this period of the rainy season, which is prone to flooding, he reminded citizens of the importance of washing their hands regularly and ensuring that their environment is clean. Maintaining cleanliness is not only a public health imperative but also a fundamental religious requirement for the faithful.

Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu called for unity and peaceful coexistence, regardless of religious differences. He encouraged residents to make the necessary sacrifices for the well-being of their families, Lagos State and society as a whole. A call for solidarity and collective action to build a better future for all.

As for the First Lady, Mrs. Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, she highlighted the importance of citizens’ cooperation with the state government for the realization of democratic projects. She stressed the need to fight together against gender-based violence, sexual and domestic violence. By emphasizing awareness of the teachings of the Quran on these issues, she invited everyone to actively engage in the protection of women’s rights and the prevention of violence.

This celebration of Eid-el Kabir in Lagos was therefore an opportunity for the authorities to recall essential values such as cleanliness, solidarity and respect for each other. By encouraging collective action for the well-being of the community, the government and its partners are working to build a more just and harmonious society.
