Fatshimetrie: The Strengthening of Diplomatic Action under the Second Quinquennium of Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi
President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, during the second meeting of the Council of Ministers, expressed his desire to strengthen diplomatic action during his second five-year term at the head of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He stressed the importance of close collaboration between his cabinet and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and La Francophonie, in accordance with the country’s Constitution.
In this context, the President highlighted the need to define coherent diplomatic guidelines, taking into account regional and global issues, vis-à-vis the DRC’s partners. He underlined the importance for diplomats stationed abroad to master these issues to carry out their mission.
The report of the meeting read by the government spokesperson, Patrick Muyaya, mentions that the President asked the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs to provide an update on the evaluation of the 12th diplomatic conference which took place held in Kinshasa in February 2022. The recommendations resulting from this conference must be implemented to guide the DRC’s diplomatic action.
The 12th diplomatic conference had the theme “Diplomacy for the development of the DRC and peace”, and allowed Congolese diplomats to analyze and discuss international issues linked to the country’s diplomacy. Several recommendations were made during this conference, such as improving the working conditions of Congolese ambassadors and diplomatic agents, the identification and management of real estate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or the modernization of procedures linked to obtaining passports and visas.
This new momentum towards more effective and coherent diplomacy testifies to President Tshisekedi’s desire to position the DRC as a major player on the international scene, promoting the development of the country while contributing to the consolidation of peace and regional stability. By strengthening diplomatic action, the Congolese government is committed to defending the interests of the nation and promoting international cooperation beneficial to all.
