Lisanga: Restoring hope for the displaced people of Kwamouth through comprehensive humanitarian action

The Kwamouth region, in the province of Mai-Ndombe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was the scene of a major humanitarian crisis impacting thousands of people. Faced with this disastrous situation, a global humanitarian assistance project called Lisanga was launched to support displaced people living in the sites of Dumi, Mongata and Mbankana, located in the rural commune of Maluku, in Kinshasa.

This project, of significant scale, has the main objective of improving the living conditions of people affected by the Mai-Ndombe crisis and the forced displacements following the attackers’ attacks. Specifically targeting around 30,000 displaced people, including 2,000 agricultural households, the Lisanga project is financed by the prestigious Directorate-General of the European Commission in charge of humanitarian aid (DG-ECHO) to the tune of 3.2 million Euros.

The actions planned as part of this project are diverse and cover several areas to comprehensively respond to the needs of vulnerable populations. Among the components of the project, we find community protection and social cohesion, the revival of livelihoods, primary health, the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and nutrition, as well as education in emergency situation.

It should also be noted that this humanitarian assistance project will be implemented by a consortium bringing together eight organizations working in a holistic and integrated manner to provide concrete solutions to people affected by the crisis.

At a time when the international community is concerned by the humanitarian crises which are multiplying across the world, the Lisanga initiative brings a breath of hope to those displaced by the Kwamouth crisis. By supporting these vulnerable populations in their quest for protection, resilience and improvement of their living conditions, this project embodies the spirit of solidarity and mutual aid that should animate our world.

It is essential that everyone realizes the importance of supporting humanitarian actions such as that carried out by the Lisanga project. Because beyond the numbers and statistics, there are lives, destinies, hopes which depend on the generosity and solidarity of each person. By joining forces and resources, we can help build a better, fairer and more united world for all.
