The social days organized by the Center for Studies for Social Action (CEPAS) in Kinshasa from June 19 to 21 are of crucial importance for the democratic future of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Under the evocative theme “Reviving the dream of democracy in the DRC”, these meetings promise to be a real turning point in the country’s electoral processes.
While Congolese democracy has been marred by irregularities and a lack of transparency during past elections, the director of CEPAS, Father Alain Nzadi-A-Nzadi, highlights the importance of thinking collectively about inclusiveness and transparency which must characterize future elections in the country. By revisiting previous electoral processes, the aim is to chart new paths to consolidate democracy in the DRC.
Beyond the critical analysis of past elections, these days also aim to breathe new democratic momentum into the Congolese people by offering them concrete prospects for improving electoral processes. Indeed, the consolidation of democracy is an essential pillar for the development of the country and the establishment of transparent and inclusive governance.
In partnership with Loyola University of Congo, the Ebuteli Research Center and the Action Center for Business Managers and Executives in Congo (CADICEC), CEPAS intends to mobilize the different driving forces of Congolese society to think together about the democratic future of the country. These multidisciplinary exchanges will not only make it possible to capitalize on past experience, but above all to propose innovations and reforms to guarantee fair, transparent and inclusive elections.
In short, these social days for the improvement of electoral processes in the DRC represent a unique opportunity to rethink Congolese democracy and to restore hope to an entire people in search of justice, equality and freedom. It is by uniting our forces and our ideas that we will be able to build a better future for the DRC, based on democratic values and solid institutions.
