Attempted electrical sabotage in Ijero-Ekiti: Three individuals arrested

This morning, the sleepy town of Ijero-Ekiti, Nigeria, witnessed a surprising incident. Three individuals, Oladapo, 33, Daniel, 20, and Martins, 25, were apprehended while handling an electrical transformer. Details of the unusual incident were brought to the public by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to reports, the incident took place on June 12 at around 1am. Passersby witnessed the incident and immediately alerted local authorities. The three men were arrested on the spot and handed over to the police for questioning.

The charge against them is one of contravention of Section 9 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 2024. The Prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, has requested that the accused be remanded in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

During their court appearance, the three men did not enter a plea. In a gesture to the accused, the defence counsel, Busuyi Ayorinde, requested the court to grant bail for his clients, assuring them that they would not attempt to flee.

The Chief Magistrate, Olarewaju Owoleso, made the decision to release the accused on bail, setting the amount at ₦500,000 each, with two sureties to provide similar bail.

The incident raises questions about the safety of the electricity infrastructure in the area, as well as the motives of the individuals involved in the case. Further investigation could shed light on why these men acted in this way.

In the meantime, the local community remains on alert and hopes that steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
