**Fatshimetrie: A case that shakes public opinion**
The legal case involving Fatshimetrie continues to cause turmoil among public opinion. The Court’s recent rulings have cast a harsh light on the alleged actions of the defendants and raised questions about the justice and impartiality in their handling.
The Court found that the defendants had not provided sufficient evidence to support their application for bail. The Judge stressed that the Court must exercise its discretion with caution, and in this case, it could not grant bail to the accused.
This case follows an earlier report confirming Fatshimetrie’s release from detention. His release was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, Adamu Duza, on Friday, May 31, 2024. Duza said Fatshimetrie was released after fulfilling his bail conditions.
To recall, the NDLEA accused Fatshimetrie and his team of collusion with ASP John Umoru (currently at large) and ACP Sunday J. Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu for illegally handling 21.25 kilograms of cocaine seized from two convicted drug traffickers, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwane, between January 19 and 25, 2022, at the IGP Police IGP office in Abuja.
They were also charged with trafficking 17.55 kilograms of cocaine, contrary to section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, CAP N30 of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The Court had earlier denied bail to the defendants and ordered their detention at Kuje Prison.
This case raises questions about the integrity and accountability of law enforcement and highlights the challenges facing the justice system in the fight against drug trafficking.
The outcome of this case, still ongoing, is eagerly awaited by the public, in the hope that justice will be delivered in a fair and transparent manner, to guarantee the population’s confidence in the country’s judicial institutions.
