The celebration of Eid ul-Fitr at Jofar Mata Jumu’at Mosque: Between tradition, resilience and controversy

The celebration of Eid ul-Fitr is always a time of celebration and gathering for Muslims around the world. This year, at Jofar Mata Jumu’at Mosque, Emir Sanusi decided to kick off the Dubar festivities after leading the Eid prayer and delivering an inspiring sermon.

Despite bad weather which prevented the use of the usual grounds for the festivities due to flooding caused by heavy rain, prayers were able to take place in the mosque. We can see in this event a beautiful symbolism of resilience and adaptation in the face of the vagaries of nature.

Accompanied by Governor Abba Yusuf and members of his cabinet, the Emir was surrounded by strong security comprising the forces of the Army, Police, Civil Defense and other actors. The protection of these important figures shows the importance of maintaining peace and security during such ceremonies.

Distinguished by his usual presence, Emir Sanusi then took the road back to his residence on horseback. During this journey, he took the time to greet and welcome gestures of respect and recognition from those present, thus demonstrating his closeness to his people.

However, this celebration was not without controversy. Indeed, the Kano Police had announced the ban on Eid Dubar due to tensions linked to the ongoing conflict for the title of emir. This situation highlights the political and socio-cultural issues surrounding ancestral traditions and power struggles within traditional institutions.

In short, the celebration of Eid ul-Fitr at Jofar Mata Jumu’at Mosque was marked by moments of religious fervor, tradition and preservation of public order. Despite the difficulties and tensions, the unity and communion that reign on these special occasions testify to the strength and resilience of the Muslim community in the face of the challenges of the present time.
