**Fatshimetrie: Minister of Works inspects ongoing road projects in Lagos**
The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has paid an inspection visit to the ongoing works on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and other road projects located on the Lekki Free Trade Zone, the Credit Road of Dangote and Eleko, among others, last Saturday in Lagos.
During his visit, the minister highlighted the importance of resolving compensation issues related to the impact on many critical infrastructures. The government has reduced the entire corridor of Phase Two, Section Two of the coastal road, to achieve effective paving of 55 km, including the 10 railway lines.
So far, the government has disbursed about N10 billion in compensation. The minister mentioned: “We will defer the payment of compensation from kilometer seven because we have realigned certain sections, such as the white sand beach.”
He added that compensation payments will continue after these adjustments. “For Section Two, we will hire new enumerators to get their opinions. The process will be very quick,” he said.
The minister highlighted the advantages of these redevelopments, in particular the preservation of numerous properties. “We have preserved all the cables and the entire community of Okunaja, not only by repurposing, but by doing it entirely through a swamp. Some protesters are criticizing the fact that we are replaying the route in the swamp instead of doing it on the designated areas to avoid destroying the cables. This reaction is incomprehensible.
With these strategic adjustments, the minister was confident about the positive progress of road projects underway in the region. The aim is to ensure effective planning and optimal implementation for the benefit of the entire community.
This inspection visit highlights the government’s continued commitment to improving road infrastructure and taking into account the interests of local communities while ensuring sustainable regional development.
