The recent measures taken by Dr. Aminu Usman (Abu Ammar), Commander General of the Hisbah in the state, reignite the debate on compliance with laws and regulations within hospitality establishments. Indeed, while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina, Dr. Usman confirmed the closure of a hotel for violating agreements previously entered into with hoteliers in the state.
The hotel in question was sanctioned for violating the rules governing the presence of minors on its premises. During a recent inspection, the Hisbah discovered that two underage girls had been accommodated in the same room, which contravenes the laws established by the body.
This case is not an isolated case, as Dr Usman pointed out that this is the second such offense committed by the New Palace Hotel, despite previous warnings from the Hisbah and commitments made by management of the establishment to put an end to such practices.
In the interest of consistency and compliance with established standards, an agreement was reached during a collaborative meeting with state hotel managers that no establishment should accommodate minor children.
Faced with non-compliance with Hisbah regulations and the hotel’s failure to comply with established conditions, the decision to close it immediately was taken.
This event highlights the importance of respecting laws and agreements reached, particularly in the hospitality sector which must ensure the safety and well-being of all its customers, including minors. It also highlights the crucial role of regulatory bodies such as the Hisbah in ensuring compliance with ethical and legal standards within society.
This case therefore calls into question the need for hotel establishments to strictly comply with the regulations in force and to ensure that each stay complies with the principles of law and ethics.
