In the heart of rural Jigawa, a revolutionary initiative is emerging: the establishment of mobile veterinary services to meet animal health needs across the state. This major announcement was made during the inauguration by Governor Umar Namadi, who highlighted the importance of these workers in the sustained agricultural transformation of the state.
The 300 newly trained workers will be tasked with providing mobile veterinary services to every corner of the State, thus participating in the prevention and control of animal diseases. Each of them will be equipped with a motorcycle fully equipped with a medical kit, vaccination kits, medicine box and other accessories necessary to provide routine and emergency veterinary services.
This initiative is part of the Agricultural Extension Officers Program of the Jigawa State Government, which aims to provide quality agricultural extension services to farmers. The governor highlighted that the state enjoys competitive advantages in the agricultural sector, covering not only crop production but also livestock development.
In addition to this advancement in the veterinary sector, the governor also mentioned the success of the goat farming microcredit program which has empowered thousands of women in the state. Recently, 1,640 women were gifted with three goats each in four LGAs, and the governor pledged to extend this program to the other 11 LGAs in the state.
The president of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria welcomed this initiative, highlighting its impact on food security and the mass emigration of Nigerians. By emphasizing food security and livestock protection, this effort is helping to place Jigawa State on the global stage in agricultural development.
In conclusion, with the establishment of these mobile veterinary services and other agricultural support programs, Jigawa State is positioning itself as a key player in the agricultural sector in Nigeria and Africa. These initiatives are not only steps forward for the economic development of the region, but they also illustrate the government’s commitment to the well-being of its population and the protection of its agricultural resources.
