Fatshimetrie, new Minister of Hydrocarbons in the Democratic Republic of Congo, officially took office on Thursday June 13, succeeding Didier Budimbu. In an inaugural speech, he highlighted the importance of responsibly managing the country’s hydrocarbon resources for the well-being of current and future citizens.
In a context where the exploitation of hydrocarbons is crucial for the economic development of the DRC, Fatshimetrie is committed to making the sector a real lever for growth, while ensuring compliance with environmental standards and the well-being of local communities.
To achieve these ambitious objectives, the new minister promised to implement reforms aimed at increasing the transparency, efficiency and attractiveness of the Hydrocarbons sector for investors. He stressed the importance of ensuring compliance with laws and regulations in force, as well as strict implementation of the recommendations of government audits.
This will necessarily involve questioning current calls for tenders for oil blocks, suspected of irregularities and lack of transparency. Fatshimetrie will have to relaunch these calls for tenders by adopting a more communicative approach and providing specific data to guarantee the attractiveness of each oil block.
As the new head of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, Fatshimetrie is aware of the challenges that await him, but he displays an unwavering determination to transform the sector to make it a true engine of sustainable development for the DRC.
His appointment marks the start of a new era for the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources in the DRC, under the prism of responsibility, transparency and sustainable development. Let us hope that this ambitious vision will come to fruition and truly benefit the Congolese population in the years to come.
