Start of a new political era in the Republic of Congo: The challenges and ambitions of the government of Judith Suminwa

The government of Judith Suminwa was officially inaugurated during a marathon session at the Palais du Peuple, marking the start of a new political era in the Republic of Congo. The Prime Minister presented her team and the broad outlines of her action program, highlighting two fundamental pillars: employment and security.

Employment has been placed at the heart of this government’s priorities, with a stated ambition to create 6.4 million jobs by 2028. This bold vision aims to resolve the crucial problem of unemployment which affects many Congolese and to stimulate the country’s economic growth. By emphasizing job creation, Judith Suminwa shows her determination to address the socio-economic challenges facing the country.

The second pillar of government action is security, a major issue in a context where the country faces significant security challenges. By strengthening the capacities of the police and investing in the training of law enforcement, the government intends to guarantee the security of citizens and fight crime effectively. The construction of a high-level police academy and the balanced distribution of personnel throughout the national territory illustrate the government’s desire to strengthen the country’s security apparatus.

In the area of justice, the government is committed to improving the accessibility of legal services by ensuring better coverage of courts and tribunals throughout the territory. In addition, the rehabilitation and maintenance of thousands of kilometers of agricultural feeder roads each year will support rural development and strengthen trade in the country.

Despite these ambitious announcements, discordant voices were raised from the opposition. Christian Mwando, representative of the opponent Moïse Katumbi’s party, criticized the excessive size of the government and questioned the government’s ability to implement its promises. He also highlighted the importance of the security situation in the country and expressed reservations about the priority given to job creation.

In short, the inauguration of the government of Judith Suminwa marks the beginning of a new political era in the Republic of Congo, with challenges and ambitions that match the challenges facing the country. The path to progress and stability promises to be strewn with pitfalls, but the determination and vision of the Prime Minister offer a glimpse of promising future prospects for the Congolese nation.
