The Kongo-Central province is preparing to launch a vast vaccination operation against poliomyelitis, targeting 906,617 children aged from zero to 59 months. This campaign, scheduled for June 13 to 15, 2024, is an initiative of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) which aims to eradicate this devastating disease.

Poliomyelitis, also known as polio, is a viral disease that can cause permanent paralysis in unvaccinated children. This is why it is essential to carry out regular vaccination campaigns to protect the population, particularly the youngest and most vulnerable.

In addition to polio vaccination, this campaign will also include the distribution of vitamin A to children. Vitamin A is essential for strengthening the immune system and preventing nutritional deficiencies, which can be detrimental to the health of growing children.

At the same time, more than 800,000 children aged 6 to 59 months will receive deworming treatment based on mebendazole, intended to eliminate intestinal worms. This initiative aims to improve the gastrointestinal health of children and reduce the risk of diseases linked to these parasites.

This vaccination and deworming treatment campaign is an important step towards protecting the health of children in Kongo-Central. By investing in prevention and ensuring that every child receives essential health care, we are helping to give them a healthier and brighter future.

It is essential that health authorities, healthcare professionals and the community work together to make this campaign a success. Raising awareness of the importance of vaccination, ensuring easy access to health services and guaranteeing the quality of care provided are key elements to guarantee the success of this initiative.

Together, we can protect children’s health and help build a healthier, more resilient society. Polio vaccination and deworming treatment are only the beginning. Let’s continue to invest in the health of our children, because they are the future of our nation.
