The project to build a water collector in Goma, in the province of North Kivu, is causing concern and indignation among the local population. Launched a year ago, this work, initially planned to last six months, is still pending to this day. This appalling situation has a direct impact on the daily lives of residents, who find themselves confronted with unsanitary conditions and increased health risks.

The collector in question should extend from the “Afya Bora” junction to the “President Entrance” intersection in the commune of Karisimbi. Unfortunately, the finishing work is far from complete, leaving part of the work abandoned. The traders of the Alanine market, crossed by the collector, even made it into illegal dumping, thus contributing to environmental pollution and the proliferation of pests.

Residents, exasperated by this situation, are sounding the alarm. The foul odors emanating from accumulated waste and the risks of spreading diseases linked to the presence of mosquitoes are major problems which require urgent action by the competent authorities.

The provincial director of the Roads Office, engineer Papy Minga Malinga, responsible for supervising the works, admits the slowness of execution without providing clear explanations for this delay. He nevertheless ensures that the financing necessary to carry out the project has been released by the National Road Maintenance Fund (FONER) as well as by the provincial government.

Despite these assurances, the population remains skeptical and is demanding concrete actions to resolve this worrying situation. It is imperative that the responsible authorities do everything possible to quickly complete the work on the water collector, in order to ensure public safety and the health of the inhabitants of Goma.

In conclusion, it is crucial that transparency and diligence prevail in the management of this type of essential infrastructure project for the population. Delays and poor workmanship are not acceptable when the health and well-being of citizens are at stake. It is therefore imperative that concrete measures are taken to ensure the rapid and efficient completion of the water collector works in Goma .
