Inclusive strategies for transparent governance in the DRC

The recent event held in Kinshasa, entitled “Workshop on Inclusive Strategies for Good Financial, Electoral and Natural Resource Governance in the DRC”, brought together key stakeholders in the field to discuss critical issues related to transparency and accountability in public resource management.

During this workshop, discussions focused on key themes such as public resource governance in the DRC, citizen participation in public financial management, as well as electoral and natural resource governance. The various speakers highlighted the importance of collaboration between public authorities and civil society to ensure efficient and equitable use of the country’s financial resources.

A highlight of these discussions was the presentation of citizen control in public financial management, where organizations such as the Centre for Research in Public Finance and Local Development have played a crucial role in promoting accountability and good governance. Despite the challenges and obstacles encountered, these initiatives aim to encourage authorities to respect the law and act in the interest of the population.

At the same time, the issue of electoral governance was addressed, highlighting the importance of monitoring the use of public funds by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to ensure free and transparent elections. Similarly, the need to monitor the management of the country’s natural resources was highlighted, in order to ensure sustainable and equitable exploitation of these resources.

Finally, initiatives such as the “Anti-Corruption Blue Line” were presented as essential tools to enable citizens to report cases of corruption and embezzlement. These reporting mechanisms, combined with increased oversight by authorities and greater cooperation between oversight institutions and civil society, could help promote more transparent and accountable governance in the DRC.

In sum, this workshop highlighted the crucial importance of good financial, electoral and natural resource governance for the sustainable development of the DRC. It also highlighted the need for close collaboration between the different actors involved to ensure transparent and equitable management of the country’s resources, in the interest of all its citizens.
