Strengthening security in Goma: Delivery of new Jeeps to the Police to fight against insecurity

Fatshimetrie – Handover of new Jeeps to the Goma Police to strengthen the fight against insecurity

The city of Goma, located in the North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been facing major security challenges for several years. Insecurity, fueled by the free circulation of weapons and the presence of armed groups, seriously harms the daily lives of residents and hinders the economic development of the region. In this worrying context, the Governor of North Kivu, Major General Peter Cirimwami, decided to act by handing over four new Jeeps to the Goma Provincial Police.

This provision of vehicles constitutes a concrete means of increasing the intervention capacity of the National Police in the fight against insecurity. Indeed, adequate means of transport are essential to allow security forces to deploy quickly on the ground, to strengthen the police presence in sensitive neighborhoods and to carry out targeted operations against criminals. Major General Peter Cirimwami stressed the importance of this initiative to improve security in Goma and its surroundings, while calling on citizens to collaborate with the defense and security forces to effectively fight crime.

This delivery of new Jeeps to the Police was welcomed by the urban civil society of Goma, represented by Marrion Ngavho. While recognizing the efforts of the military governor, she stressed the need to further strengthen security measures to pacify the city. The local population is also concerned by the effectiveness of the actions taken against insecurity, sometimes deploring the absence of legal proceedings against the alleged criminals arrested.

The provincial authorities of North Kivu launched operation “Safisha mji” three months ago in order to deter malicious individuals who attack the civilian population. This initiative is part of a broader approach aimed at restoring peace and security in the region, by combining the efforts of law enforcement, citizen collaboration and legal proceedings against the perpetrators of criminal acts.

In conclusion, the delivery of new Jeeps to the Goma Police by the governor of North Kivu is a positive step towards an improvement in the security situation in the city. However, it is essential that these vehicles are used effectively, as part of an overall strategy to combat insecurity, to guarantee the protection of residents and foster an environment conducive to the socio-economic development of the region.
