The deadline set by the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior for foreigners residing in the country and exempt from residence permits expires on June 30. This urgent announcement was made recently by the ministry, which called on foreign residents to obtain exemption cards from the General Administration of Passport, Immigration and Nationality, as well as its branches in all governorates.
Since April, Egypt has asked all foreigners residing in the country to promptly go to the General Administration of Passport, Immigration and Nationality to renew their residence permits and regularize their status, during the period granted by the Prime Minister until June 30.
The government has encouraged all foreigners, especially groups exempt from residence fees, to go to the General Administration of Passport, Immigration and Nationality to register their data and obtain a smart residence card in order to ensure their continued access to services provided across all government sectors.
A decision was made by the cabinet last year stipulating that foreigners applying for the right of residence for tourist or non-tourist purposes must submit a receipt indicating that they have transferred the accommodation costs, late payment fines, or the costs of issuing a residence card in US dollars or the equivalent in foreign currencies, via certified banks or exchange companies.
Foreigners residing illegally in the country must regularize their situation and regularize their stay as long as they have an Egyptian host, in exchange for depositing an administrative fee equivalent to 1,000 US dollars in an Egyptian bank.
This measure aims to strengthen the control and regulation of foreign residents in Egypt, ensuring better security and facilitating the management of public services. It is essential for foreigners residing legally in the country to comply with these requirements in order to maintain their status and benefit from all the benefits offered by the Egyptian government.
