The under-representation of Maniema in the Suminwa Government: a hindrance to national unity

Fatshimetrie: Maniema under-represented in the Suminwa Government

The Suminwa government’s recent publication caused shock waves within the Maniema Caucus of Deputies. Indeed, these elected officials express surprise mixed with dissatisfaction at the absence of representatives from their province within this newly formed government team, made up of 54 members.

Prospère Tunda, one of the Maniema deputies, bitterly underlines the fact that no national of their province has been taken into account at different levels of institutions, whether at the office of the National Assembly or within the Government . It highlights the damage that this lack of representativeness causes on the unitary dynamics of the country, going against the precepts of the Constitution which advocates a governmental composition taking into account diversity and national representation.

Faced with the colossal challenges that the Democratic Republic of Congo is currently facing, particularly on the security level, Prospère Tunda insists on the importance of bringing together the country’s strengths while taking into account the diversity of the provinces, in order to promote solid national cohesion and efficient.

He thus calls on the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, as guarantor of national unity and the proper functioning of the institutions of the Republic, to rectify this anomaly which could compromise the confidence and adherence of certain regions of the country to current policy.

In this context, it is imperative that the Suminwa government consider revising its composition by integrating representatives from Maniema, thus strengthening the legitimacy and legality of its actions and measures. Such an approach would promote not only the inclusion of regional diversity in government bodies, but also the active participation of all provinces in the construction of a united and prosperous Congo.

Ultimately, the debate on regional representation within government cannot be ignored, because it is essential to guarantee transparent, inclusive and progressive governance for the entire Congolese nation.
