Inauguration of a key road for the development of the Niger Delta

The inauguration of the 27 km road linking the localities of Ogbia to Nembe in Bayelsa State of Nigeria demonstrates the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the Niger Delta region. This major project, jointly funded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), has been hailed as a major breakthrough for local communities.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Delta Affairs, representing the President, stressed the importance of providing concrete benefits of democracy to all Nigerians. He encouraged citizens to contribute significantly to the success of the ongoing development projects, stressing that the newly completed road had brought relief to the fourteen communities along its route.

The Director General and CEO of the NDDC, for his part, welcomed the renewed involvement of the government in the financing of development projects in the Niger Delta. He stressed that this financing model, combining public-private partnerships, demonstrated the potential to make significant progress in infrastructure development.

Likewise, the Director General of SPDC welcomed the completion of the project, demonstrating the satisfaction of the oil company with its contribution to financing this initiative. He stressed the importance of cooperation between different stakeholders for the success of such projects.

The Bayelsa State Governor also spoke at the ceremony, expressing satisfaction with the finalization of the road which was initially envisioned in the 1940s. He highlighted the challenges the project had faced face and the efforts made to overcome these obstacles, highlighting the importance of consultation and cooperation between local authorities, businesses and communities to carry out such undertakings.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the Ogbia-Nembe road in Bayelsa State demonstrates the government’s desire to work collaboratively with the private sector for infrastructure development and promotion of the welfare of local communities.
