May 25, 2024 will remain engraved in the annals of Kinshasa as the day when roller skating regained its rights in the Congolese capital. On the esplanade of the Palais du Peuple, Boulevard Triomphal and Boulevard Lumumba resounded with acrobatics and impressive feats, offering a breathtaking spectacle to fans of the discipline.
Under the amazed gaze of the public, the skaters launched into dizzying jumps such as the jump, the shalom, the Jump style, the high jump and the pure height. The athletes, from the cadet, junior and senior categories, coming from 20 clubs spread across the districts of Lukunga, Mont-Amba, Tshangu and Funa, displayed their talent with unfailing determination.
At the head of this initiative, the Kinshasa Provincial Roller Skating League (LIPROKIN) clearly displays its desire to support and promote this discipline by intensifying its efforts in detecting young talents, coaching and monitoring athletes.
“We are extremely satisfied to have taken on this challenge, because since our installation, our objective was the success of this event, which marks the beginning of a new era for roller skating in Kinshasa. We are convinced that this discipline is full of local talent, and our priority is to supervise them effectively, in close collaboration with the federation,” declared Jeannot Kuzi, president of LIPROKIN, during a press conference.
These roller skating demonstrations are only the prelude to even more grandiose events to come. Jeannot Kuzi announced the upcoming holding of the provincial championship, scheduled for mid-June at the Limeté interchange esplanade, as well as a holiday camp in July-August, offering young people the opportunity to learn the basics of this discipline.
In short, the resumption of roller skating activities in Kinshasa marks a new start for this booming sporting discipline, driven by the passion and commitment of local stakeholders. Roller skating has found its place in the heart of the Congolese capital, promising ever more impressive shows and talents to discover.
