Fatshimetrie: the challenge of pacifying Ituri
The security situation in Ituri remains worrying, despite the efforts made by the Government to establish peace in this region. The Deputy Minister of National Defense, Samy Adubango, recently reaffirmed the authorities’ desire to fight against armed groups resistant to the peace process.
During his visit to Bunia, Samy Adubango clearly indicated that armed groups signatories to acts of commitment in favor of peace will have to respect these agreements under penalty of suffering the sanctions provided for by law. He stressed that the military is ready to act to guarantee the security of the inhabitants of Ituri and prevent any further bloodshed in the region.
The involvement of the Iturian community is also essential to achieve lasting peace. Samy Adubango called on the inhabitants of the province to promote unity, love and cohesion, essential values to rebuild a climate of trust and security.
The vice-minister’s visit to Ituri is part of the continuity of actions carried out to restore peace in the region. His agenda also includes a trip to Mahagi, where unidentified armed groups have recently committed abuses against the population. This approach demonstrates the determination of the authorities to pacify the entire territory and guarantee the security of all citizens.
It is essential that the Iturian population mobilizes to support these initiatives and actively contribute to building a more peaceful and harmonious future. The intercommunity dialogue organized by Jean-Pierre Bemba was a first step towards reconciliation, but it is now necessary to translate these exchanges into concrete actions on the ground.
Ultimately, the pacification of Ituri represents a major challenge for the Democratic Republic of Congo. This requires the commitment of all stakeholders, from authorities to citizens, including international organizations, to put an end to the violence and establish a climate of lasting peace and stability.
