The recent development of the road leading to the Wadi Firan/Saint Catherine checkpoint, covering a total area of 100 square kilometers, marks a significant step forward for the region. With an investment exceeding two billion Egyptian pounds, the road was widened to 25 meters, with three lanes in each direction. This initiative, led by the governor of South Sinai, Khaled Fouda, aims to facilitate and shorten the journey for visitors going to Sainte-Catherine, a city which relies mainly on excursion and weekend tourism.
Beyond the practical aspect, work was also undertaken to protect the road from the risk of flooding, which had previously caused significant damage. These renovations are all the more necessary due to the ongoing development of the Major Event Project in Sainte-Catherine, which is preparing to open its doors soon.
This modernization of road infrastructure is part of a broader vision of development and enhancement of the Sainte-Catherine region. Indeed, facilitated and secure access to this emblematic city of Sinai will not only help to boost local tourism, but also to strengthen its attractiveness to national and international visitors.
The completion of this road project constitutes an important step towards the enhancement and preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Sainte-Catherine region. It demonstrates the desire of local authorities to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism, while offering modern and secure infrastructure to residents and visitors.
Beyond its economic benefits, this initiative highlights the importance of investment in infrastructure to support the social and cultural development of a region. By allowing easier and safer access to emblematic sites such as Sainte-Catherine, these projects help to strengthen the link between local communities and visitors, thus promoting the sharing and preservation of common heritage.
