Humanitarian emergency in the Lac Vert region: the call for solidarity and action

The humanitarian situation in the Lac Vert region, west of the city of Goma, greatly worries local authorities. In fact, more than 2,000 displaced households have been flocking for several days to different accommodation sites in this area, fleeing clashes between national security forces and M23 rebels. These vulnerable populations, originating from the territories of Masisi and Kalehe, live in extreme precariousness, lacking everything and being confronted with unsanitary and dangerous conditions.

The head of the Lac Vert district, Dedesi Mitima, launches a cry of distress, calling for urgent humanitarian care for these displaced people. Living conditions in accommodation sites are alarming, with cases of suffocation reported due to promiscuity and lack of organization. The displaced do not have access to food, shelter or blankets, and their daily lives are marked by misery and vulnerability.

Faced with this critical situation, Dedesi Mitima calls on humanitarians, the government and the solidarity of all. It underlines the urgency of intervention to avoid a worsening of health and humanitarian problems in the region. In addition, he invites the population to show solidarity with these displaced people and pleads for the construction of peace in this part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This situation highlights the need for rapid and coordinated action to meet the needs of the displaced and guarantee their safety and well-being. It is essential that humanitarian actors, government authorities and civil society join forces to provide an adequate response to this humanitarian crisis. The solidarity and commitment of all are essential to overcome the challenges faced by these displaced people and to contribute to the construction of lasting peace in the region.
