**Floods in Dima Lumbu, Bandundu-ville: The Kasaï River overflows**
The devastating impact of the floods in Dima Lumbu, district of Bandundu-ville, following the overflowing of the Kasaï river, plunged the community into an unprecedented crisis situation. The consequences are alarming, disrupting not only the daily lives of residents, but also the local education system.
The paralysis of school activities for a week has caused uncertainty among schoolchildren and teachers in Dima Lumbu. With two schools affected and two others transformed into emergency shelters, the situation is critical. The affected families found refuge in these establishments, where makeshift beds were installed and mosquito nets hung to preserve a semblance of privacy.
Faced with this humanitarian crisis, the Provincial Director of EPST Kwilu 1, Kadiata Nyembwe, wants to be reassuring about the imminent resumption of classes. Partners in the education sector have promised to install temporary tents to allow students to resume their studies while waiting for a return to normal.
Despite these disruptions, the smooth running of the out-of-session state exam tests is not compromised. Indeed, Dima Lumbu does not have an examination center for this important academic event. The affected students will be redirected to other establishments in Bandundu-ville to take their exams.
Note that more than 450 households were affected by these floods, causing considerable material damage to homes, schools and places of worship. The exceptional rise in the waters of the Kasaï River, of nearly 317 cm, far exceeds the usual levels recorded, according to the river authorities.
In conclusion, the solidarity and commitment of local authorities and humanitarian partners are essential to overcome this crisis. Reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and support for affected families must be absolute priorities to protect the population and restore a semblance of normality in Dima Lumbu.
