Corruption case at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in Egypt: the underside of a scandal revealed

At the heart of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in Egypt, a new corruption case surfaces, involving “M.M”, the undersecretary of the ministry in one of the governorates of Upper Egypt. The revealed details reveal a series of illegal transactions involving quantities of bran during the months of January and February 2023, originating from the Middle Egypt Flour Mills Company.

The allegations relate to a series of instructions provided by the main accused for the distribution of these stocks of bran without any official document attesting to their destination. These quantities were allocated to unauthorized individuals, who then resold the merchandise on the black market for personal profit.

The charges against “M.M” include falsifying invoices, proving that the fictitious recipients were entitled to receive these quantities of sound, when in reality this was not the case. Through this deception, the real beneficiaries, three people in number, were harmed. It was revealed during the investigation that the amount of this deception amounts to approximately 2.2 million Egyptian pounds, representing the difference between the official price of the Middle Egypt Flour Mills Company and the price practiced on the market black.

The accused “M.M” allegedly gave verbal instructions to third parties to distribute these bran stocks to these traders, without any official document justifying these transactions and in violation of the laws in force, as reported by the suspects’ testimonies. .

This breach of ethics and legality raises concerns about the transparency of operations carried out within the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. It highlights the persistence of corruption and illegal practices that harm not only the integrity of government institutions, but also the national economy as a whole.

It is imperative to conduct thorough investigations, apply appropriate disciplinary measures and put in place stricter safeguards to combat these wrongdoings and ensure the proper management of public resources. Only a zero-tolerance attitude towards corruption will restore public trust and promote transparent and fair governance.
