“Afghan-Pakistan border tensions: the challenges of crucial regional cooperation”

Amid border tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Pakistani airstrikes caused the deaths of eight civilians, including women and children, in the border provinces of Paktika and Khost, Afghanistan. Afghan authorities strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of the country’s sovereignty.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid warned Islamabad of the potentially uncontrollable consequences of such actions. He underlined Pakistan’s responsibility in managing relations between the two neighboring nations.

These events come against a backdrop of rising tensions since the return of the Taliban to power in Kabul in 2021. Pakistan accuses armed groups, such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), of carrying out attacks from Afghan soil .

For its part, the Afghan government says it will not allow anyone to use its territory to launch attacks against its neighbors. The recent attacks highlight the complexity of relations between these two border countries, each pointing the finger at the other for the unrest shaking the region.

These events once again underline the importance of regional cooperation to ensure stability in the region. Border tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan highlight the need for constructive dialogue to resolve differences and prevent further violence.
