The Congolese political world is shaken by surprising revelations from Makala central prison, where honorary provincial deputy Mike Mukebayi has been detained for more than eight months. In the grip of deep disappointment with the leadership of his Ensemble pour la République party, Mukebayi is seriously considering distancing himself.
The corridors of the prison echo with the confidences of Mukebayi who expresses his frustration about his treatment within the party. Despite his loyalty to chairman Moïse Katumbi, the former elected official from Lingwala feels abandoned and relegated to the background. He deplores the lack of support and attention from his political family, while his incarceration is directly linked to his political commitment and not to personal matters.
Mukebayi points out the lack of recognition towards him within Ensemble pour la République. He feels sidelined during important party events, where only Salomon SK Della and Chérubin Okende are put forward. This situation endangers his freedom, his health, and his place within the political organization that he has devotedly supported.
The situation reached a breaking point with the burial of Chérubin Okende on Wednesday March 20. From his cell, Mukebayi followed with bitterness the declarations of the secretary general of Ensemble, denouncing the conditions of detention and arrest of Salomon, while he himself is kept in prison without trial in trying conditions. This highlighting of the injustices suffered by his colleagues pushed him to question his position within the party and his political future.
This affair highlights the tensions and internal rivalries within Ensemble pour la République, endangering the cohesion and unity of this major political party in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
