“Let us underline the urgency of security in Bwenga: Call for action in the face of the deadly attack by the Cooperative for the Development of Congo”

At the beginning of the week, the village of Bwenga, located in the Banyali-Kilo sector in Ituri province, was the scene of a deadly attack perpetrated by armed men. The tragic events that occurred on Monday March 25 claimed the lives of two people, plunging the local community into dismay.

According to local sources, this attack is attributed to fighters from the Cooperative for the Development of Congo (Codeco). Dieudonné Sikuti, provincial elected official of the Djugu territory, stressed that this militia would have acted in retaliation following the disappearance of a taxi driver who was a member of their community. In an urgent appeal to the authorities, the elected official requested effective intervention from the security services in order to put an end to the violent actions which are plaguing the territory of Djugu.

The local population lives in fear and insecurity, forced to spend their nights under the stars after this new deadly incursion. The presence of military forces is strongly requested to ensure the safety of residents and put an end to this spiral of violence which is damaging the region.

It is essential that the authorities take rapid and effective measures to protect vulnerable populations and guarantee peace and security in the region. Attacks by armed groups can no longer be tolerated, and it is imperative that concrete actions are put in place to ensure the security and stability of the Ituri region.
