Launch of the Polio Vaccination Campaign in Kananga: John Kabeya Shikayi at the head of the fight for children’s health
The fight against poliomyelitis is a major public health issue in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and it is with this in mind that the governor of the Kasaï-Central province, John Kabeya Shikayi, kicked off the campaign vaccination this Wednesday, March 27, 2024. The ceremony took place at the Colonel Bobozo military camp, in the commune of Kananga, in the presence of authorities and health professionals.
This vaccination campaign, which will take place over three days, aims to protect more than a million children aged 0 to 59 months against polio. The head of the provincial health division underlined the importance of this initiative which is being deployed door-to-door to reach the maximum number of children in the 26 health zones of the province.
John Kabeya Shikayi expressed his commitment and determination to guarantee the health and well-being of children in Kasai-Central by fighting this potentially devastating disease. He called on the population to support this vaccination campaign and encourage the participation of all to eradicate poliomyelitis.
This action demonstrates the commitment of the authorities and health stakeholders in the DRC to protect young people and prevent the spread of diseases preventable by vaccination. Community support is essential to ensure the success of such initiatives and ensure a healthier future for future generations.
Together, let’s mobilize against polio and work towards a future without vaccine-preventable diseases.
