“Launch of a historic vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis in Mbuji-Mayi: unprecedented mobilization to protect the children of Kasai-Oriental”

On Wednesday March 27, 2024, Mbuji-Mayi, capital of Kasai-Oriental, was the scene of the launch of a crucial vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis. This initiative aims to protect nearly one million one hundred thousand children aged 0 to 59 months residing in the 19 health zones of the province.

The provincial Minister of Health kicked off this campaign in the commune of La Muya, highlighting the importance of vaccination to prevent the spread of this devastating disease. The preferred strategy for reaching these children is door-to-door, to ensure maximum participation.

The Kasai-Oriental Expanded Vaccination Program (EPI), under the supervision of the local coordinator, has put in place an effective system to carry out this campaign. At the same time, the provincial Minister of Health calls on parents to cooperate by keeping their children at home during the vaccination period, thus guaranteeing the success of this crucial operation for public health.

This initiative once again demonstrates the commitment of local health authorities to protect the population against preventable diseases. Community awareness and mobilization are essential to ensure the success of such campaigns, thereby helping to strengthen the health system and ensure a healthier future for all.
