Protecting our “Nature is life”: A memorable awareness campaign in the DRC

The Democratic Republic of Congo is witnessing a commendable initiative towards environmental protection, spearheaded by the non-governmental organization “Nature is life”. Under the leadership of Malesta Botone, also known as Queen Miss Green, the organization recently launched an awareness campaign in schools and universities in Kinshasa. The primary goal of this campaign is to educate the youth about the critical importance of preserving the environment amidst challenges such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

Over the course of two impactful days, from April 24 to April 25, the teams from the NGO engaged with several educational institutions including Lycée Technique de la Gombe, Bosembo College, Source de Vie School, Higher Institute of Arts and Trades, former Higher Institute of Commerce, and Higher Pedagogical Institute, ISP-Gombe. The objective was straightforward – to inform, raise awareness, and mobilize students and pupils around the urgent need to safeguard our planet.

The engagement was lively and interactive, providing young individuals with the space to discuss, question, and learn about simple yet essential actions for a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Topics covered ranged from waste sorting to energy conservation and biodiversity preservation, all presented in an engaging and educational manner to foster collective consciousness.

The culmination of this impactful campaign was a grand Gala evening held on April 28, open to the public. The event served as a platform to showcase the efforts of “Nature is life” while honoring everyone’s commitment to environmental conservation. It was a poignant moment filled with emotions and messages of hope for a greener and more sustainable future.

Beyond the event itself, this awareness drive serves as a reminder of the crucial necessity to educate young generations on adopting an ecological and responsible way of life. By taking action today, we are setting the groundwork for a better tomorrow for all. As Malesta Botone rightly stated, it is our duty to protect our “Nature is life” for the benefit of future generations.
