A gesture of solidarity for flourishing agriculture in Maniema

In an effort to enhance the living and working conditions of market gardeners in Maniema, the Inclusive and Resilient Rural Development Support Program (PADRIR) has launched a significant initiative benefitting thirty agri-multipliers and 250 market gardeners in the region. This action, which took place on Tuesday, April 23 in Kindu, involved the distribution of 30 tonnes of farming equipment to these agricultural workers.

The provincial Minister of Agriculture of Maniema commended this act of solidarity, emphasizing the importance of supporting primary sector actors to foster their growth. Alphonse Mata, the provincial coordinator of PADRIR, outlined his visionary goal where every farmer can break free from poverty with the right support. “Agri multipliers now have access to the essential tools to improve their efficiency. By providing quality seeds and suitable farming equipment, we are empowering them to enhance their yields and lift themselves out of poverty,” Mata expressed.

The recipients of this generous donation are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on their daily work. Gerard Swedi, one of the beneficiary farmers, expressed his appreciation, saying, “These materials will help us boost our production. Previously, we struggled due to the lack of adequate equipment, but now, these new tools will enable us to cultivate more efficiently and expand our crops.”

This initiative is part of the planned activities outlined in the 2023 annual work plan. By supporting market gardeners in Maniema, PADRIR not only contributes to bolstering the region’s food self-sufficiency but also to enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers.

The distribution of farming equipment signifies a step towards sustainable and inclusive agricultural development in Maniema province. By arming land workers with the tools to improve their productivity and output, this action opens up new opportunities for them to break free from poverty and envision a brighter future.
