Fatshimetrie, a couple in turmoil: The poignant tale of a tumultuous cohabitation
The recent legal battle between Olawaye and his wife Victoria unveiled a long history of marital discord and difficult living arrangements. Olawaye, a father of five, recounted in court the years of torment he endured due to his wife’s aggressive and destructive behavior.
Olawaye painted a grim picture of his life, filled with insults, curses, and violent acts from Victoria. He testified that he had ceased to fulfill his duties as a husband 22 years prior to Victoria’s eventual departure from their home in 2021. Despite numerous family interventions to try to remedy the situation, Victoria obstinately clung to her harmful habits.
The height of the nightmare came when Victoria allegedly tried to stab Olawaye with a knife in 2023. Even though the knife was presented as evidence in court, the accused, Victoria, was notably absent during the trial and had been summoned multiple times.
Chief Justice S.M. Akintayo delivered a stern verdict, stating that there was no valid marriage between Olawaye and Victoria as no bride price was paid, and essential traditional rites were not observed. The judge emphasized that mere cohabitation and parenthood were insufficient to establish a legal marriage.
Victoria’s failure to dispute the charges against her resulted in the admission of Olawaye’s evidence. The poignant saga of this troubled couple sheds light on the harsh realities of toxic relationships and the legal complexities stemming from familial disputes.
In essence, this testimony underscores the heartache and suffering that certain families endure. It serves as a reminder of the significance of communication, mutual respect, and peaceful conflict resolution to maintain harmony within the household.
