Strengthening urban security along the Kimwenza road: a beneficial initiative

Kimwenza road, a key location between the Higher Institute of Medical Techniques of Kinshasa (ISTM/KIN) and the Triangle Campus, has become the focal point of a recent initiative aimed at bolstering urban security and combating prevalent insecurity affecting the local populace. In response to this challenge, the Congolese National Police has set up two police stations along this artery. The primary objective is to safeguard residents and their belongings while tackling the issue of armed gangs, known as Kuluna.

The positive outcomes of this endeavor are already noticeable in adjacent neighborhoods like Kindele in Mont-Ngafula and Mbanza Lemba in Lemba. Residents in these areas express a sense of relief and enhanced security, a stark contrast to the prolonged atmosphere of fear and distrust they endured. Testimonies gathered reflect a community thankful to the authorities for this much-needed intervention.

Students from the University of Kinshasa and the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Médicales (ISTM) also appreciate the heightened police presence. Besides ensuring their safety, it enables them to carry out their daily activities without apprehension, even after nightfall. With reduced travel-related fears and constraints, students are offered a conducive environment for academic pursuits and personal growth.

This security-boosting initiative is not limited to the existing police stations. A third station is planned for Zahabu, a vital avenue connecting the University of Kinshasa and ISTM Kinshasa. This expansion of the security apparatus aims to further fortify police presence in the area, thereby providing enhanced protection to residents and students frequenting these institutions.

In essence, the establishment of police stations along Kimwenza road is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance urban security and combat insecurity in specific regions of Kinshasa. This proactive step underscores the authorities’ dedication to safeguarding citizens and fostering a secure and harmonious environment for all.
