The NGO Action Contre la Faim (ACF) has reported significant achievements in combating child malnutrition in the Punia health zone, located in the province of Maniema. In the past year, ACF has provided support to over 2,000 malnourished children, showing remarkable progress in emergency nutrition and food security response.
With a cure rate exceeding 85%, ACF has successfully treated 1,789 children, a result that has been praised by local health and administrative authorities and the community in Punia. Dr. Musa Bikulobyanse, PRONANUT coordinator, emphasized the organization’s adherence to protocols and successful monitoring and evaluation practices.
To ensure the sustainability of their interventions, ACF has equipped local service providers with two months’ worth of supplies and training in resource management. This strategy aims to maintain continuity in care and prevent relapses among children receiving assistance.
The feedback from the local community on ACF’s actions has been overwhelmingly positive, with Christophe Kamwanga, president of Punia civil society, acknowledging the organization’s vital role in saving lives and instilling hope in the region.
Even after the closure of the project, ACF remains committed to monitoring the well-being of 425 children to prevent any recurrence of malnutrition. This ongoing dedication highlights ACF’s enduring support for vulnerable populations.
The success of ACF in Punia exemplifies the impact of solidarity and commitment in the fight against child malnutrition. The tangible results achieved and heartfelt testimonials from the local community underscore the significance of humanitarian initiatives in enhancing the lives of vulnerable children.
