Political rivalries in the DRC: José Makila vs Augustin Kabuya, the controversy that divides

In the intricate realm of Congolese politics, the dynamics of loyalty and betrayal often lead to intense debates and accusations. A recent dispute has emerged involving Senator José Makila and Augustin Kabuya, the Secretary General of the UDPS party.

José Makila, known for his allegiance to Joseph Kabila, swiftly countered the claims made by Augustin Kabuya against their former leader. Responding to allegations that Joseph Kabila was linked to the rebellion orchestrated by Corneille Nangaa and the M23 movement, Makila criticized Kabuya’s statements as reported by Fatshimetrie.

Makila pointed out that many ex-members of the FCC (Common Front for Congo) had joined the Sacred Union without implicating Joseph Kabila. He also highlighted the shift of some young PPRD members to Nangaa’s AFC without facing similar criticisms. Makila emphasized that Kabuya’s remarks reflected ingratitude towards Joseph Kabila, who had worked for the benefit of the Democratic Republic of Congo and facilitated the UDPS’s rise to power.

Nevertheless, Augustin Kabuya stood by his accusations, publicly asserting Kabila’s support for the M23 rebels and Nangaa’s rebellion. This clash exacerbated tensions between supporters of the two factions, underscoring the enduring political rivalries in the country.

Given these developments, it is crucial to monitor the political landscape in the DRC closely and comprehend the intricate issues underlying these conflicting interests. Transparency and dialogue are vital to alleviate tensions and foster a truly inclusive democracy that respects all political stakeholders.
