The passionate fight of young Ugandan wrestlers living their dream

Launched under the morning sun, a unique wrestling competition takes place in the Mukono district of Uganda. Young Ugandans gather in an improvised wrestling ring on soft ground, inspired by the professional matches they watch on television.

The founder of this new wrestling initiative, Daniel Cedric Bumba, known as Bumbash in the local wrestling community, has introduced this concept in 2023. With a passion for wrestling since childhood, Bumbash aims to make wrestling popular in Uganda and hopes to see some of the participants turn professional in the future.

The young wrestlers pay a significant commitment fee to participate, showing their dedication to leaving behind the poverty in the agricultural region. While the training takes place on soft ground, precautions are taken to avoid serious injuries, and the participants undergo extensive training before entering the ring.

Despite the challenges, Bumbash dreams of establishing a professional wrestling ring and academy to attract young Africans to the sport. He believes that wrestling can offer opportunities for children who might otherwise face inactivity or crime in their communities.

Some of the aspiring wrestlers envision their futures on international stages like the WWE, aiming to follow in the footsteps of their role models. This unique wrestling initiative in Uganda showcases the determination and dreams of young individuals seeking a path to success in a sport they are passionate about.
