Strengthening security in Abuja: Handing over of motorcycles to law enforcement and security agencies

The Minister of Security, Mr. Wike, recently distributed motorcycles to the six Zonal Councils of the FCT and security agencies in Abuja as part of an official event. These motorcycles are aimed at enhancing the security capabilities in the area, particularly in remote and rural regions, to safeguard citizens and property.

Each zonal council will receive 10 motorcycles, while 30 motorcycles will be allocated to the Nigeria Police Force. Additionally, other security agencies like the State Services Service and the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps will also be provided with motorcycles to aid in their operational duties.

During the handover ceremony, Minister Wike emphasized the significance of these motorcycles in enabling security forces to access challenging terrains effectively. He reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring the region’s safety in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewal” agenda.

While appreciating the importance of the motorcycles in combating crime, the minister cautioned security agencies against misusing the vehicles. He stressed that the motorcycles should only be utilized for security purposes and encouraged the zonal council chairmen to allocate them to local vigilante groups.

To prevent misuse or unauthorized commercial use, Minister Wike specified that the motorcycles should strictly remain within rural areas. He reminded the recipients of their responsibility to use the equipment prudently for the benefit of the community and assured close monitoring of their deployment.

This initiative is a significant stride towards bolstering security in the FCT, particularly in rural vicinities, to enhance the protection of residents and assets. The government’s unwavering commitment to prioritize the safety and welfare of the populace is evident. It is crucial that these resources are utilized effectively to maximize their positive impact on the community.
