Historic investment in education: 26 billion Congolese francs allocated to teachers in Kongo-Central

The National Union of Catholic Teachers (SYNECAT) of Kongo-Central has recently unveiled the distribution key for the teachers’ salary envelope allocated in the 2024 budget. This substantial amount of 26 billion Congolese francs, equivalent to around 9 million US dollars, is designated for teacher remuneration. This announcement is of utmost significance for the education sector, highlighting the attention given to the socio-professional conditions of teachers.

Simon Nsilulu, the head of SYNECAT in Kongo-Central, emphasized that this significant financial investment will be allocated based on seven priority needs identified for the teaching staff. These needs, established during recent discussions between the central Government and union representatives, aim to enhance teachers’ working conditions and support their dedication to education.

Among these crucial needs is a salary increase that will benefit from more than 13 billion Congolese francs, acknowledging the pivotal role teachers play in society. Additionally, nearly 7 billion will be devoted to adjusting the free premium, a crucial measure ensuring universal access to education.

Plans include settling unpaid salaries for teachers and recruiting new personnel to bolster the workforce. The issue of retirement pension, affecting approximately five hundred teachers, was also addressed to secure the financial well-being of these professionals post-retirement.

This distribution key for teachers’ salary envelope marks a significant advancement in the education sector in Kongo-Central, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to supporting teachers and ensuring dignified working conditions for these essential figures in the education system. These measures, guaranteeing fair and equitable remuneration for teachers, contribute to enhancing teaching quality and promoting education accessibility for all.
