ADF rebel explosive devices in Ndimo, Ituri: A growing threat to regional security

The situation in Ndimo, Irumu territory, is causing grave concerns due to the constant threat of explosive devices planted by ADF rebels. Recently, seven civilians were injured in two separate explosions, underscoring the need for immediate actions to prevent further tragedies.

The NGO Convention for the Respect of Human Rights (CRDH) has urged authorities to enhance security measures in these conflict areas to safeguard vulnerable populations. Since the beginning of 2024, multiple incidents have been reported, resulting in eleven casualties, including a soldier, from ADF-placed explosive devices on victims’ bodies.

This sinister tactic not only imperils the local populace but also fosters fear and insecurity. The discovery of war remnants in Tchabi emphasizes the urgency of neutralizing these devices and securing the affected regions.

CRDH’s appeal to dismantle ADF strongholds in the forest and deploy a MONUSCO mine clearance team is crucial for civilian protection and reinstating security. It is essential for authorities to collaborate closely, coordinate mine clearance efforts, and avert further calamities.

Given the escalating challenges, raising awareness among locals about the dangers posed by explosive devices and encouraging them to report suspicious activities to authorities is imperative. Ensuring civilian safety is paramount, and proactive measures must be taken to prevent loss of life and maintain stability.

The Ndimo incident underscores the critical necessity of bolstering security and thwarting terrorist attacks in ADF-affected areas. Authorities must act decisively to shield vulnerable populations and ensure a tranquil and secure future for all.
